On Tuesday September 17, four students from Mansfield High School were invited to attend the MA250 celebration at the State House in Boston and were chaperoned by Julia Atwood and Kelly Ransom. All of these students participated in the National History Day Regional and State contests in Massachusetts during the spring of 2024 and were invited because of their stellar historical research and projects. Tyler Cook, Phineas Evans, and Shreyas Kandala created a documentary about the Rise of Mao Zedong and received a bronze medal at the regional competition last spring. Grace Maxwell created a website about the discovery of the Rosetta Stone and also received a bronze medal.

At the MA250 event, students were able to participate by standing behind the people giving speeches which included Governor Maura Healey, Lieutenant Governor Kim Driscoll, Mayor of Boston Michelle Wu, as well as many others. The event included a performance by a fife and drum corps, militia reenactors with muskets, as well as actors playing Paul Revere and William Dawes riding into the event on horseback. Students even got to see Spot, a robotic dog created by Boston dynamics. At the end of the event, the students were able to enter the State House and check out the Hall of Flags where they promptly found Mansfield’s town flag.
