What is the Academic Learning Center?
The Academic Learning Center (ALC) is a regular education program offering support services in order to meet the educational needs of MHS students.
Course Offerings
- Academic Skills Workshop (ASW)
In this course students set academic goals, receive study skills instruction, learn test taking strategies, learn organizational and time management techniques, and receive clarification of course content. Students may also receive MCAS preparation and remediation through the assistance of peer tutors and the ALC co-directors.
Note: Students must be recommended by the Academic Learning Center co-directors to enroll in this course.
Open to Grades: 9, 10, 11, 12
- Academic Learning Center Tutor
To become an ALC tutor, a student must meet the following qualifications: demonstrated academic excellence, and the social and emotional maturity necessary to connect with students seeking supportive academic services. Tutors are matched to students in the Academic Learning Center at MHS, or to other targeted students in the district who need support with specific skills and strategies needed for content area mastery. Tutors actively participate in a unique educational experience and make a huge difference in the lives of those students who are seeking help with their academics.
Note: Students seeking this opportunity must complete an application, which can be obtained from the Academic Learning Center co-directors in Room 182 or Room 123.
Open to Grades: 11, 12
