Press Release

The 29th annual Mansfield High School Foreign Language Honor Society Induction Ceremony was held on Thursday, November 3rd, 2016 at the Mansfield High School Auditorium. Nineteen French students were inducted into the Société Honoráraire De Français sponsored by the American Association of the Teachers of French.  Thirty-four Spanish students were inducted into the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica sponsored by the American Association of the Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese.

These two honor societies are national organizations and the criteria for selection is uniform, mandated and of the highest caliber.  Each inductee has maintained at least a 90% average in his or her respective language for at least two years at the High School levels prior to consideration.  In addition, the inductee must have a cumulative scholastic average of 80% or above in all other subjects. Senior members of each society, Nithin Lankipalle, James Chotkowski, Jordan Brill-Cass, and Ian Kavanaugh conducted the ceremonies in Spanish and French.  Guest speaker and former 2006 graduate of Mansfield High School Cynthia Conquest delivered a message with an emphasis on global awareness and intercultural compassion.   The importance of learning a language is not only an academic benefit but also a form of enrichment for our diverse world.

The French members performed a classic French song titled “Envole-moi” by Tal and M. Pokora. The song was performed on the third season of the French version of Dancing with the Stars. “Envole-moi” has been explained by Jean Jacques Goldman, the original songwriter, as a “cry for help” from a young man. As a society, we raise up this song as a symbol of the French education; honorable to the past and applicable to today.

The Spanish members performed a song titled “El mismo sol” a duet by Alvaro Soler and Jennifer Lopez talks about what a small world we live in. We should love and try to understand each other, rather than focusing on our differences. We are all truly one people, sharing this beautiful planet...UNDER THE SAME SUN.

The ceremony concluded with a Salsa dance performance by honor society members, showcasing the choreography of Spanish teacher, Sergio Morales

Thank you to all who came and shared in this special day!
